Synopsis
Featuring a cast led by Álvaro Cervantes, Bruna Cusí and Marc Martínez, Fernando Trullols makes his directorial debut with a powerful and harrowing true story that highlights love and resilience as driving forces for survival.
On 30 December 2000, a group of friends set out to reach the summit of Balandrau. Sunshine and good weather accompany them during the ascent until, within a matter of seconds, everything changes unexpectedly. A fierce wind known as the torb unleashes one of the worst storms in the history of the Catalan Pyrenees: a monster of cold, snow and wind that turns the mountain into a deadly trap. Based on true events, the film is a story of extreme survival, friendship and solidarity, showing how, when faced with the unpredictable, human beings can be both extraordinarily fragile and remarkably strong.
Balandrau, Wild Wind is both the chronicle of one of the worst tragedies caused by a weather phenomenon in Catalonia and a tribute to the nine hikers who lost their lives, as well as to the professional and volunteer rescue teams who took part in the intense rescue operations over three days and three nights.
